What I Wore to the Races

Written By Unknown on Thursday, November 8, 2012 | 8:46 AM

Ok so the races was at a local community hall, but we watched the Melbourne Cup at the bar beforehand.  Our spring race carnival came with high fashion, a few dice in cups, Popsicle stick steeplechase and little horses made of cardboard!

But didn't we all look fab!

Outfit Details: House of Fraser suede nude wedges, Principles red high low strapless dress, Dorothy Perkins white linen blazer, Marks and Spencers white viscose derby hat (thrifted), Matalan pearl drop earrings.

I found this hat in a tiny antique store in the village of Lechlade in the UK back in August.  It travelled well back to NZ and seemed appropriate for the races.  I think my over sized hat may have been a bit old fashioned next to the plethora of fascinators, but funky millinery is quite difficult to find on a budget.

Thanks to Catherine from Not Dressed as Lamb, and her Photo Tips Friday posts (found her via the Wardrobe Wednesday Linkup)  I am determined this month, that along with my hair straighteners, I will learn how to use my point and shoot camera to get better results.  I know it is capable of better - but as she says it takes experimentation and practice - a bit like the hair straighteners I suppose!

Off to read the manual!  Linking up with Thrifters Thursday xo
