Not quite chambray

When the chambray shirt trend really started to emerge last year, I kept my eye open in thrift shops for one to give it a try and see how I liked it, before considering investing in my own perfect piece.  Frequently this approach saves me spending a ton on trends that pass quickly, or that I decide I don't like.

In this case I found this cute button up cotton shirt (unknown brand) with gorgeous floral trim.  As you can see in the final pic it's more of a tiny blue check than solid blue.  I've found that it works like a charm in place of a chambray shirt, it's light weight so fun to layer without being bulky, and best of all it cost 4 pounds.

BUTTON UP HINT: I heard a great trick from another blogger the other day; put a tank over your button up shirt when layering under stuff - you allow the shirt to be seen without it looking bulky under your knitwear.

Here's my outfit inspiration pic - I doubt I'll ever buy a tutu (never say never though), but I love the juxtaposition here between feminine skirt and masculine shirt.  And any excuse to wear my pearls :)
